Amen's Cafe

This building began as the Weiner Cigar Factory in 1907, during the boom years when Rupert expanded rapidly — between August and October of 1905 the town took in 90 railcars of materials, with more arriving every day. In 1907, Congress passed a special act allowing the sale of the town-square lots to the building owners, setting a nationwide precedent.

Over the years the structure housed a cobbler shop, a photography studio, lunch counters, a barber shop, and a children's clothing store before being consolidated into a single café operation. The brick conversion dates to the early 1950s. The Amen-Barnes family ran the café here for over 30 years, followed by Cathy's Kitchen. The brickwork, signboard, and original inset doorway remain in excellent condition.
