Rupert City Hall
After Rupert's governmental formalization in 1905, city officials met in various locations around the town square. When the Wilson Theatre was completed in 1920, city departments relocated to its west storefront.
The current City Hall structure was built during the Great Depression. In 1937, the City of Rupert purchased the lots from the Rupert Sales Corporation for $500 and back taxes. Construction utilized a $29,455 matching grant and labor from the Works Progress Administration.
The original facility housed city offices on the ground floor, the city jail on the south side, and the public library on the second floor. An attached gymnasium and civic center served local schools. The architecture features Art Deco elements in the facade and the original concrete-arch buttresses supporting the civic center roof. Subsequent wing additions with offices and modern restrooms have complemented the original structure.
