Original First National Bank Building

Prior to 1906, a small wood-frame shop on this site housed Smith & Haynes Barbers. The wood structure was replaced by a brick one in 1909, making it the Historic District's oldest surviving building.

The structure subsequently served as home to the Commercial Bank before becoming the original First National Bank location. When the bank expanded, it constructed a new building adjacent to the north. Over time, various retail establishments occupied the space, including candy and cigar vendors, shoe stores, and dining establishments.

Architectural highlights include the original, intricately painted bank-vault door that has survived throughout the building's history. Decorative elements feature brick cornices with dentil detailing at the roofline, glazed tiles depicting pastoral imagery on the front base, and intricate tilework in the entryways, including an ancient good-fortune motif.
